Can a questionnaire really determine your metabolic type?

Using a questionnaire to determine Metabolic TypeMany new clients often wonder if a questionnaire is the best way to determine Metabolic Type.

As you might know, I am certified to use a variety of tests, including saliva, urine, and hair analysis, and have experimented with many of the others. I would use those if I myself thought they worked best. But they don’t.

I have experience with all of them, and the questionnaire does the best job of determining your Metabolic Type.

You may think the questionnaire is “subjective”. But it’s not. It asks some very specific, pointed questions.

We ask about your obvious nutrition habits, like food cravings and weight gain.  But I think you’ll be surprised at some of the other things we ask – things that would be easy for you to answer. For example:

- your facial features
- the shape of your eyebrows
- the sensitivity of your teeth
- your ear coloring
- your reflexes to light and noise
- asthma or coughing problems
- your reactions to weather and climate
- your personality
- your preferred working conditions

… and many other things that SEEM unrelated to diet.

Why do we ask those questions?

Because researchers have found that people with certain “internal digestive” genetics also have certain “external” traits, such as certain physical body features, certain eating habits, and certain psychological traits.

One way to think of this is that the “genes” that determine, for example, your skin color, your appetite, your personality, and your reflexes generally are associated with the “genes” that affect your digestive processes.

The questionnaire collects 130 characteristics about your health, diet, eating habits, physical attributes, emotional tendencies, and psychological characteristics.  We use this information to determine correlation between your unique body with the 24 basic Metabolic Types. However, the questionnaire is only the start.

Once you complete the questionnaire, you receive a detailed health, nutrition, supplement, and lifestyle profile, plus a food chart.  From that point on, once we identify which of the 24 types you are, we also provide you with a process to help you customize your diet until it fits you exactly – not as one of 24,but as a unique individual, different from everyone else on the planet.

So the questionnaire is probably the least important aspect of the program. The MOST important is what you do with the results when you get them.

Through the plan you will learn SKILLS that will make you independent in assessing your own nutrition needs. You won’t need to keep taking tests over and over to find out what you should be doing. Eventually you learn to choose the right foods for yourself without using tests, checklists, or other crutches.

I can’t say the same about any of the other metabolic tests that are available.

Hi Carole! I have taken my online questionnaire… but thinking back and being aware the past week since taking it there may be a few answers that I would change now that I have thought about it more… will this affect my results significantly? Or is there a way to add on to the questionnaire or something?

  2. Carole Taylor says:

Don’t worry if you haven’t answered every question correctly. The questions are looking for patterns of answers. A couple of questions not answered correctly should not alter the outcome.

In addition, the food chart is a starter food chart that you work with to fine-tune foods to be more precisely customized to you. After you work with your food chart and the step-by-step Checklist for three or more months, you will be ready to take your second test.

I’m pre-diabetic and in the past year an half have managed to lose about 80 pounds and still would like to improve my weight and health. I go to a diabetic doctor regularly. I have changed a lot of my bad habits, but it is a struggle to keep it off. I could use some advise.

  4. Carole Taylor says:

Hi Allicia – In your profile, we include recommendations specifically for weight problems. But there are a lot of factors here, including how long you’ve been eating incorrectly for your metabolic type, how faithful you are to the recommendations, how well you keep up with the checklists and record sheets, and in the end how self-motiviated you are.

And most importantly, this is NOT a quick weight loss plan that creates temporary results (like many you’ve tried). We are looking to make long term, permanent changes to your eating habits, which will make long term, permanent changes to your health and weight. But as I mentioned on the website, I’m not there with you forcing you to make the right food choices. I can give you all the tools you need, but this plan really is in your control, not mine.
