Metabolic Typing is not a diet, but a set of skills
As you begin your Metabolic Typing plan, keep in mind that Metabolic Typing is not a “eat this/don’t eat this” diet like most other diet plans. Instead, Metabolic Typing is about developing skills. We are trying to get YOU to be able to determine what’s right for you – not because someone has told you – but because you’ve tested and experienced it for yourself!
So as you begin your diet plan, don’t think about your diet in terms of “rules” and “principles”. Instead of these rules and principles, START thinking in terms of watching how food affects you and monitoring body signals. Or another way to put this is to stop thinking about diet with your head, and start experiencing diet with your body.
To do this, we provide the Diet Check Record sheet and Diet Symptom Journal. They are the heart of this program, and they teach you how to monitor your physical, mental, and emotional reactions to the food you eat. You need to fill these out consistently, and over time you’ll find whether YOU should eat a little or a lot of veggies, a little or a lot of fruit, what proteins work best, etc.
Of course, we know based on your Metabolic Type, what foods are best and which ones to avoid, so you should follow these guidelines in the food chart. But the goal here is to find out what works best for YOU! Not what works for the “average person” or for “most people”. Also, realize that as you balance your bio-chemistry, your food nutrient ratios may change.
That’s why we teach you how to change your ratios, as your nutrition improves. It’s also why we provide a second test part way through the program. This helps you adjust to your new levels of health, weight, energy, and digestion as you go through the plan.
Now this takes time. But over the months as you are working through the program, you’ll easily and quickly know your dietary needs, just by monitoring your body signals.
