“The Doctor of the Future”

The doctor of the future will give no medicineThomas Edison, the American inventor and scientist, invented everything from the light bulb, to recorded music and motion pictures, to electric distribution systems. It would be hard to imagine what the modern world would be like without his vision and forward-thinking in so many areas.

Edison also had a vision for medicine as well. He once wrote:

“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

Well, if he were still around, I think Edison would agree that the profession of “doctor” has stumbled a bit along the way to this goal. But more and more, even doctors are starting to agree that while medicine is a temporary answer to disease, “lifestyle choices” are really what keep us permanently healthy.

The “proper diet” of Real Metabolic Typing isn’t about diagnosis and treatment. It’s about building health from the cellular level all the way up. We don’t focus on your specific symptoms or illness, but on your entire health. What we’re really trying to do in many of the alternative and natural health fields is get away from the idea of “treating disease” which is what a lot of people talk about when they talk about health.

Now, as part of building health, you may see improvements in whatever problems you have, but we don’t really “treat” anything. It’s about focusing on you as a person, and on a customized approach made just for you – the whole you, the real you.

Here in the U.S., a lot of people talk about “health care” these days. I was invited to a meeting a while back with the editors of a national magazine that is on the forefront of the “health care” issue here in the U.S. One of the attendees at this meeting was saying that what most people call “health care” we really should just call “medical care”.

“Medical care” is what you go to a doctor for. “Health care” is what you do for yourself. So in that sense, Real Metabolic Typing is health care and a valuable part of the future that Edison wanted for us all.

The more I read of your Metabolic Typing, the concept really speaks to me in a very logical manner. It is not only what we put into our mouths but how our bodies respond. I’m beginning to think that we each have our very own unique ‘body-print’, similar to a finger print.

Thank you for your comments, Robyn. You are so right. I couldn’t have said it any better myself.
